The IRION consortium came together in Chemnitz, Germany, on 2–3 July 2026 for the project’s Partners Meeting, hosted by Fraunhofer ENAS. As the project completes its first six months, the meeting provided an excellent opportunity for partners to reconnect in person, review the work carried out so far and jointly plan the project’s next steps.
The first day focused on the progress achieved across the project and the work that lies ahead. Work Package leaders presented the progress of their tasks, shared the technical developments achieved during the first months and discussed current challenges and the next steps in their respective areas. Alongside the technical sessions, partners also reviewed communication, dissemination and exploitation activities, ensuring that technical progress continues to be supported by effective outreach.
A central part of the meeting was dedicated to collaboration. Partners were divided into three working groups where they exchanged ideas, discussed technical issues and explored the next steps for their activities. These smaller discussions allowed partners to address questions and align their approaches.
The programme of the first day also included a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) workshop, organised by RINA-C, introducing the consortium to the methodology that will be used to assess the environmental sustainability of the technologies developed within the IRION.
The second day continued with presentations on the remaining Work Packages, focusing on project coordination, the next milestones and the priorities for the coming months.
Beyond the formal agenda, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity for partners to exchange perspectives, discuss their progress in person and reinforce the collaborative spirit that drives IRION forward.
