Funding Scheme

Horizon Europe is the European Union’s flagship research and innovation funding programme for the period 2021–2027. With a budget of over €95 billion, it supports collaborative projects that strengthen Europe’s scientific excellence, boost industrial competitiveness and address major societal challenges, including climate change, sustainability and the transition to clean energy systems. IRION is funded under Horizon Europe as part of the EU’s commitment to advancing innovative and impactful solutions for a climate-neutral future.

The project is supported by the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (Clean Hydrogen JU), a European public-private partnership established to accelerate the development, deployment and market uptake of clean hydrogen technologies. Clean Hydrogen JU brings together the European Commission, industry and research community to drive innovation across the entire hydrogen value chain, reduce costs, improve performance and reinforce Europe’s leadership in hydrogen technologies.

Through funding from the Clean Hydrogen JU under Horizon Europe, IRION contributes to Europe’s strategic goals by developing circular, sustainable and scalable solutions for hydrogen production technologies. The project aligns with the objectives of the European Green Deal by reducing dependency on critical raw materials, lowering environmental impacts and reinforcing Europe’s strategic autonomy in clean energy technologies.
