On 17 June 2026, IRION participated in Metal Recycling Expo 2026 in Frankfurt, Germany, bringing the project’s work on circular solutions for critical raw materials to a wider audience of experts and stakeholders active in recycling and sustainable industrial technologies.

As part of the Metal & Critical Raw Material Recycling Conference, IRION team member and AIMPLAS researcher Javier Castillo delivered a presentation entitled: “Innovative Hydrometallurgical and Electrochemical Approaches for Sustainable Recovery of Iridium from End-of-Life Electrolyzers”.

The presentation showcased IRION’s ongoing efforts to develop innovative and sustainable recycling strategies for recovering iridium from end-of-life electrolyser components and highlighted the growing importance of circular approaches for securing critical raw materials in emerging hydrogen technologies.

Participants had the opportunity to learn more about IRION’s approach to combining alternative recycling routes with advanced recovery techniques designed to improve recovery efficiency and support more sustainable resource management practices.

As interest in green hydrogen technologies continues to grow across Europe, ensuring the sustainable supply and circular use of critical raw materials remains an important challenge. Through its activities, IRION contributes to addressing this challenge by supporting the transition towards a more resilient and resource-efficient hydrogen value chain.

Participation in Metal Recycling Expo 2026 offered also an opportunity to increase the visibility of the project, exchange perspectives with the wider recycling community and highlight the role of circular innovation in the future of hydrogen technologies.
